Bountiful, Beautiful, Blissful: Experience the Natural Power of Pregnancy and Birth with Kundalini Yoga and Meditation
Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa
A book I've wanted to read for a long time now. I am always interested in matters of pregnancy, birth and mothering, even though my daughter is already 5 years old. And of course it's interesting to know about knew meditations and strenghtening thoughts for my yoga students.
The book was very inspiring to read and contained lots of wisdom, concerning not only childbirth. Most of the things (about fear or flexibility, surrender, pain) can be adapted to any other situation in life.
Here again some quotes, mostly for my own reference:
Having a child is a beautyful kind of alchemy. What this soul brings to you, and what you bring to the soul, transforms you both for all the time. (-->this is sooo sooo true!)
The first three months are like preparing the ground before the garden is planted.
Meditation means learning to watch the thousands of thoughts created by the mind and not judge them or be attached to one, just as we are not fixed on one drop of water as we observe the flow of a river.
"Breath is the kiss of God." Yogi Bhajan
God doesn't give us more than we can handle.
"There are more things on Heaven and Earth than has been dreamt of in our philosophies." Shakespeare
We are so used to looking in mirrors, but you will never know what is going inside if you keep looking out.
"What a child learns in the womb cannot be learned on earth." Yogi Bhajan
Learn to be more, not do more.
We have this notion that we can control everything. Put an intention out into the universe, then live in the moment breath by breath. That is all you need to do, really. When we relax in our lives all things come, when we try to 'make' things happen, we tire quickly.
We all need to remember to differentiate 'pain' from 'challenge'. Pain leads to more pain, challenge leads to victory.
In the middle of a challenge or a storm, the answer is always here if you can get quiet enough.
Mataji (Beloved Mother)
Fear can not live in thankfulness.
"Teachers open the door but you must enter by yourself." Chinese proverb
A day with a teacher is worth a thousand pages. chinese proverb
Saturday I spent doing pranayama all day long. I was on the Pranayama workshop with my teacher Nanak Dev Singh again (have done it before in November). What an experience. Got up at 4 a.m. to go there. at 6 the warm up started. We came there a bit later as the bus didn't go like I thought it would. Fortunately Nanak Dev had to talk and explain a lot, so they didn't start in time. So after the talking and explaining there was some warm up with Stretch Pose and Breath of Fire and then we went into the first round of the kriya. It is a kriya that has 4 parts of 3 minutes (12 minutes total) and has to be repeated for 40 times. So including breaks that made a day of 13,5 hours pranayama (last time we did it, it took us 15 hours). What a challenge, what an experience. But despite my head cold I felt really energetic and not tired at all. At the end my knees gave in and today I still have a bit sore muscles between my legs from sitting in Easy Pose most of the time.
People have been lovely, food as well. I really like the potluck thing that is there when workshops are. Each person brings a little bit of food for everyone to share. So there's a rich variety of the yummiest food. All of it vegetarian. I made a salad of bulgur and grilled vegetables with dried tomatoes. Hm. Nanak Dev Singh was great again. He has this talent of carrying the whole group through the day, entertaining with his sense of humor and his stories about his life, experiences, vedic tradition, shamanism and Yogi Bhajan.
Last time after the pranayama day I needed less food for at least 4 weeks. I was supercharged with prana. Let see what the effect of this time will be. Hopefully feeling more energetic to face my diploma.

when i am at yogaclass, as teacher or student, i feel this high bust of energy. and tons of ideas wander through my mind that i almost would like to get up and start. or at least have a notebook next to me to write down all the thoughts. and then, when i come home, i feel like all the enthusiasm and energy is blown away. how is that? maybe i should do some energy cleaning in my flat and see if it gets better. or are there any rational reasons. anyone?
