As much as I love natural materials and papers and such...but how can I prevent them to be eaten by bugs? I just cleaned my show shelf and recognized that some of the artwork friends made for me was started to be eaten by some kind of worms. I found them in an altered book, a felted doll and a felted collage that I really cherish. Now what? I can't bear to throw it away, but I don't want to have those bugs in here, either. Any suggestions? How do you store your art? Or is everything bound to be thrown away? Given back to a cycle? Oh dear, it truly makes me wonder about a couple of things, the meaning of art included...
This is a picture of my new found inhabitants (Anthrenus verbasci. Larve des Wollkrautblütenkäfer in German):
keep the art - remove the bugs ... there are any number of nasty poisons that will rid you of these rascals
think of the art as an organic whole subject to change
anyway - that's what I think
I hope it was helpful

mothballs or cedar balls keep bugs at bay
they don't like the smell

Ramona,
Oh no, not a pleasant little surprise to find.
I think the freezing would work really well, depending on what material it is. And being able to keep the wet off it during the defrosting process, but airtight containers should be able to take care of that.
I know you would not consider poisons.
I hope you will be able to get rid of the little critters x
